BJP brought divisive politics to Bengal: Left organisations
Kolkata: Left-aligned farmer and worker organisations alleged on Friday that RSS and BJP had brought divisive politics to the state and were trying to gain political mileage from communal strife. They also accused BJP of attempting to distract people from core issues. Four organisations — CITU, All India Kisan Sabha, All India Agricultural Workers Union, and Paschimbanga Basti Unnayan Samiti — will start a series of protest programmes in the state, starting with a rally on Sunday at the Brigade parade grounds.
"The RSS-BJP combine has introduced communal and divisive politics in Bengal. Inflation is high, and joblessness is on the rise. Centre is ignoring this and using religion to distract people. Centre has stopped 100 days' work, and farmers are suffering. They are not getting MSP for their produce. There is no welfare measure for workers," said CITU state general secretary Anadi Sahu.
"Trinamool is helping BJP to further strengthen this binary. Communal forces are getting stronger in the state while people are suffering. Trinamool and BJP are occupied with Ram Mandir and Jagannath temple," Sahu added.
"Agricultural productivity in Bengal is on the decline. Our paddy production is dipping. Agricultural land is being used for urbanisation and infrastructure projects. The system set up by the Left Front govt has been destroyed," said Amal Haldar, vice-president of AIKS.
